A Little About Me
Welcome! Hi, I’m Deepti, creator and editor of Rooted in Ginger. I’m currently an attorney living in New York with my family. I have started this blog as a passion project to showcase my creative side. I love to cook and try new recipes. I am constantly feeding my friends with my innovative creations. That is actually how this blog got started! My friend suggested I start a blog to help other busy professionals (like myself) with quick and simple meals.
My inspiration is not only the wonderful ladies in my family but also the women of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Growing up on a small island, with very little resources, the women had to be creative. These women were making everything from scratch or finding suitable alternatives to recreate their dishes.
I have been in the kitchen since the age of 13, helping my mother prepare our daily meals. Thereafter, I lived with my aunts and grandmother, where I learned other classic recipes. My inspiration has come from the various facets and stages of my life. While living alone during college and law school, I would cook to relax. I loved experimenting with new ingredients and creating fusion recipes. Even with a career in law, and two kids, I still try to find time to experiment and learn different recipes and kitchen hacks.
In 2003 I decided to become vegetarian, and I have not looked back. It was a personal and religious choice. I hope to one day become vegan, but I love my desserts and cheese too much! I try to experiment with vegan substitutes when I can.
The name “Rooted In Ginger” signifies my love for the various spices used in Indian cooking. Most basic Indian dishes need the holy trifecta- ginger, garlic and green chilies. The name is an ode to just that! I hope you enjoy trying new recipes and hacks and putting your own spin on my favorites!
