Everyone is stuck on the golden latte. However, the real golden powerhouse is ghee. Full of nutritional benefits, ghee is quintessential to achieving that homemade Indian flavor.
The benefits of Ghee:
Higher Smoke Point
Contains Vitamins A, D, E and K
Controls Insulin
Improves Digestion
Builds Strong Bones
Decreases Inflammation
Ghee
Ingredients
(Yields approx. 16 oz Mason Jar)
4 sticks unsalted butter
2 cloves
Directions
In a pan bring the 4 sticks of butter to boil. Keep on medium heat.
Remove froth as it develops. Boil for approximately 15 minutes.
You should see milk solids fall to the bottom of the pot.
Once you get the nutty aroma and golden color, turn off heat and let cool.
Strain and keep in airtight container.
Place 2 cloves to keep fresh.
Tips
Quality of butter matter. Go for the organic grass-fed butter. I prefer Kirkland, Kerrigold or 365 Whole Foods.
Don't let the milk solids burn at the bottom. It will give the ghee a burnt smell.
Use a pot with a light-colored bottom so you can see the milk solids falling to the bottom.
Let the ghee cool before straining or you risk burning a hole in your strainer.
