Jalapeño Popper Twists

These appetizers are irresistible. Its the perfect appetizer for a large party! You can make them ahead of time and just reheat before serving.

What I love about these jalapeño popper twists is that you get the same jalapeño popper flavor without the frying. I like the spiced cream cheese which lends a good balance to butter puff pastry. I like to use the largest jalapeños so that you can really stuff them well. These twists are a creative way to serve a classic. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Jalapeño Popper Twists

( Serves 4-6 people)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Plain Cream cheese

  • 2 Scallions, diced

  • 2 Thai green chilies, minced

  • 2 Cloves of Garlic, minced

  • 1/4 Cup Cilantro, chopped

  • 12-14 Jalapeño Peppers, (the larger the better)

  • 1 Puff Pastry sheet

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Defrost your puff pastry sheet.

  2. Wash and dry the jalapeños. Slice them lengthwise and scoop out the membrane and seeds.

  3. Place the sliced jalapeños on a baking sheet and bake them for 10 minutes. Let them cool.

  4. In the meanwhile, prepare the filling. In a blender add the cream cheese, garlic, green chilies, scallions, cilantro and shredded Mexican cheese. Blend until combined.

  5. Once the jalapeño slices have cooled, place the filling in the middle. Do not over stuff, just fill until the brim of the jalapeño. Keep the stuffed jalapeños aside and prepare the puff pasty.

  6. Open the puff pastry sheet on your counter or flat surface. Pinch the two seams and cut in half. I like to use a pizza cutter to cut the pastry, it makes it easier.

  7. Then cut your puff pastry halves into strips. I like to cut the halves into further halves until I have approximately 24-28 strips. I like to use the halves method in order to get even pieces.

  8. Use the strips to wrap the stuffed jalapenos. Start and end the puff pastry strips on the cream cheese so that it can adhere to it. I like to get one or two full twists depending on the size of the jalapeños.

  9. If you are serving them later you can par bake the strips at 350 for 10 minutes. Then when ready to serve you can bake them at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.

  10. If you are serving them immediately, bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes (until the pastry has puffed.

  11. Let them cool down for 5 minutes and serve warm. Enjoy!
